The First NERF Showdown at Quayside Isle: A Father's Day to Remember
I host a lot of events. Some stay with you. This was one of them.
I had the joy of emceeing the very first NERF Showdown at Quayside Isle, a Father's Day battle that brought 20 dad-and-child pairs together at Sentosa Cove. arc, the team behind the precinct's events, dreamed this one up, and I was so excited to be on the mic for it. As an emcee who loves kids and family events, this was right up my street.
A Father's Day built for dads and their kids
The idea was simple and brilliant. Sign up as a duo, dad and child, then team up with another duo to battle it out in a friendly NERF tournament. Forty people. Plenty of darts. One very loud arena. My job was to keep the energy high, the rules clear, and every family feeling like they belonged in the action.
Inside the arena
The arena, ready for action.
Walk into the space and you knew something fun was about to happen. Camouflage barriers, low walls, obstacles to duck behind. It looked the part. For a brand activation like this, the setup matters, and the Quayside Isle crew built an arena that got the kids buzzing the moment they saw it.
I won't give away how the game runs, that's part of the fun. But I'll say this: watching a seven-year-old strategise with their own dad is one of the best things you'll see on a Sunday afternoon.
From the first whistle to the grand final
We ran the teams through group rounds, then the knockouts, then a best-of-three grand final. By the time the last round came around, the viewing area had turned into a proper crowd. Dads cheering for their kids, kids cheering for their dads. We crowned our first ever NERF Showdown grand champions, handed out hampers, and made sure every family went home with a smile and dinner vouchers for the restaurants right there at Quayside Isle.
Right after some of our battles, I went round with the mic to meet the players. You can tell a lot about a child from how they answer a question on a microphone in front of a crowd!

Then home to be a dad myself
Here is the part that made this one special. The event landed on the actual Father's Day. So once the last photo was taken, I packed up, and went to be a dad to my own little girl, Elle.

Hosting a Father's Day event for other dads, then heading home to celebrate as one. That is not a bad way to spend a Sunday.
