A UK Degree, Earned in Singapore and Celebrated at RWS
There is something special about a graduation. It is one of those rare days that families remember for the rest of their lives. I had the joy of being the graduation ceremony emcee for the PSB Academy x Coventry University Graduation Ceremony 2026, held at the grand Compass Ballroom, Resorts World Sentosa. The theme said it all: Oceans of Opportunity.
Here is the part that makes this partnership meaningful. It lets students in Singapore earn a globally recognised UK degree without having to travel abroad. PSB Academy is the co-organiser that delivers the curriculum, while Coventry University serves as the awarding body. So the graduates in that room earned a Coventry degree, right here at home.
400+ Names, Every One Read with Care
Over 400 graduate names to announce, one after another, each one a person's big moment.
Here is the challenge, and the fun part. The names came from all over the region. Vietnamese names. Burmese names. Sri Lankan names. Cambodian names. And of course Chinese, Malay and Indian names too. Get a name wrong, and you can deflate the one moment a graduate has waited years for.
So I did the homework long before the day. I researched the pronunciations, checked the tricky ones, and prepared properly so that each graduand heard their name said right as they walked the stage. That preparation is the quiet part of the job that nobody sees, and it matters most on days like this.
A full house for the largest cohort yet.
A Room Full of Pride
Many of the graduates are international students. They flew into Singapore for this single moment, and a lot of them came dressed in their cultural best. Looking out from the stage, you could see so many cultures in one room.
What stayed with me were the families. Proud parents. Proud siblings. Loved ones who supported someone through years of study, all there to clap as that name was called. These are core memories, and getting to hold that energy for them is something I do not take for granted.
From Anthems to Applause
A ceremony of this scale has a rhythm to it. We rose for the academic procession, then stood for two national anthems, Singapore followed by the United Kingdom, a nice nod to the partnership. From there we moved through the opening addresses, the Top Graduate Awards, and one of my favourite moments, the valedictorian.
Our valedictorian, Mr. Leong En Rong, began his journey with a foundation certificate and worked his way to the top of his class. His story is exactly what Oceans of Opportunity is about. What a way to celebrate.
Then came the part everyone waits for. Four rounds of applause, the graduates turning to thank their families, and the proud announcement of the graduate class. My job is to lift that energy at the peak, then bring it back down gently so the ceremony stays warm and dignified. Energy and control, both at once, for a youth and school event that families will keep in their hearts.
Grateful to Be Back
This was my 6th time hosting a PSB Graduation Ceremony with YSNC, the event planner behind the day, and I am grateful for the trust. To the teams at PSB Academy and Coventry University, thank you for letting me be part of a day that means so much to so many families.
Here is hoping the ceremony keeps growing, year after year.
Honoured to host this milestone.
